Overall not at all impressed with this location. The service prior to being seated with hostess was absolutely horrible. Multiple other people waited and waited to be greeted and seated when 80% of the place was empty. The server was not bad however food was cold after waiting a good 30 plus minutes for it after the 35 min wait to be seated. Won't be back.

I know, I know. 4 stars for a Sonny's. Take my 'q card away from me. But the place is consistently good, always very quick, and they have some great values. Drinks are enormous (and you can get a full refill in a to-go cup!). The meat is always good enough. The Big Deal lunch combos - definitely why you should be coming to a Sonny's - are always worth it. At every location I've been to, service is always friendly. Sure, it's middle-of-the-road barbeque, but the little things make it worth coming back to, every time. ANECDOTE TIME! When I lived in Hawaii, which (aside from island style) has terrible barbeque, my sister wanted to send me a bottle of Sonny's sweet sauce. The mail clerk asked her the usual package shipping questions (liquid, glass, fragile, etc), but when my sister explained I was a Citrus County native who missed good sauce, the mailman let her send it to me. Yay my sister, and yay Sonny's.

Have tried Sonny's 3 times in the past couple of months. Each time the food gets worse. I will no longer go there. The pork was so fatty, thick and dried out. The chicken was tasteless and they forgot at least one item a couple of times.

Just dined here with my fiance for the first time. And it was delicious! Service was quick and friendly, food was excellent and portion sizes were just right. I will definitely be going back!

When I was young in Florida, we used to go to Gill's BBQ in Ormond. It burned down, then reopened, then closed later. Sonny's was my alternative. Always have loved the sliced pork and their hot sauce. I've never found such a good BBQ anywhere else. On a recent trip to Central Florida, I returned to Port Orange since I attended Spruce Creek HS. We had lunch at Sonny's and loved it. Nice service, great food, and my favorite Sauce!!! Jack had the baby back ribs which he also loved.

Called to order family feast. Was put on hold for 9:20. Called back and stated I did not want to be put back on hold. Was told I would be put back on hold so I ordered from Dustins BBQ.

The food was really bad. We tried the brisket and ribs for lunch and both were terrible. The brisket was all white fat and the ribs were almost raw. Never will be back

It's a Sonnys. Food was good and plentiful. What I wanted to comment about is that I think these were some of the nicest people I've ever seen, both the patrons and the workers. Strangers helping strangers, and our waitress was super nice. Maybe this is the norm in Daytona area, but you don't see this every day in S Florida. Place does feel a bit run down though.

This place is great!!! We drove up, and we were kind of wondering, considering there were only about 5 cars in the parking lot!!! But when we went in and ordered, we did not regret it! The service wasn't bad at all, and the food was great! I got a combo meal with pulled chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and fries!!! It was GREAT!!! I especially loved the pulled chicken!!! Overall, this place deserves the 5 stars!

  • Pat G.

When they first opened they were very good. Ate here yesterday and what a mistake. Ordered the baby back ribs, sweet potato, baked potato and garlic bread. The ribs were completely dried out and a small portion. Could not eat the sides or garlic bread; no real butter! Amazing. Every other Sonnys I have eaten in had butter. Food was poor and service was only fair. Went away hungry and disappointed. Won't eat here again.

  • M. T.

I would have given this 4 stars except there is an issue with consistency. Sometimes it will be very enjoyable. The ribs will be cooked properly, fall off the bone, with a good crispness. Other times, the ribs and BBQ seem almost like they are either re-warmed and soggy with the texture of boiled meat, or cold. They have temperature issues with a lot of the foods. When I go through a thought process of "hey, do I want to eat at Sonny's?" the first things that come to mind are "is the BBQ going to be the boiled/reheated type stuff" or is the pulled pork going to be cold? Sometimes they are "on it". You know it's going to be good when the garlic toast is nice and hot. The sides: stick to the basics. Get french fries, baked beans or cole slaw. If you are adventurous, maybe the mac and cheese (but it's a slippery slope). The fries are usually the one consistent item, as are the beans. The slaw seems too creamy and not fresh and the mac and cheese too gooey and flavorless or cold. When they get it right, you will completely enjoy your food. If they have a bad day, you will know and and you will be so bummed out you spent that kind of money on bad food. Very hit or miss, I won't lie to you. I probably wouldn't continue to go there, but it's been a tradition for so long kinda a habit. I have not been in about 4 months though. When you have a bad experience, sometimes takes a long time to get the courage up to come back. Dustin's is more consistent, but expensive and has less "home made" items (sides, non-BBQ items) on the menu. Really a coin flip with either Port Orange bbq. Don't even think about Woody's though, severe food poisoning (worst case I have seen in my entire life, and I've been to Mexico) occurred to my husband and we've never gone there again.

So many memories here for my husband - thus we always go when we're in town. I usually just opt for the salad bar, which is great. To me, Sonny's is just a normal BBQ chain, but my husband LOVES it! I spends a small fortune on the BBQ sauce to take him with him as well. Everyone is always really nice. Last time we were there, our waitress even recognized Jason from when he used to come in all the time in high school - that was almost 10 years ago!

Well, it's as bad as I remember it from the past. How a company can take probably cooked BBQ and make it bad makes me wonder who directs their food prep. In Florida, generally, they do not understand why you hand slice thicker pieces of Pork at an angle to get rougher surfaces that holds and absorbs the sauce. They are too lazy and instead offer machine sliced or pulled now. I saw their recent ad on TV and saw nice chunks of meat being chopped, and I said to myself, at least they finally understand that. I got sucked in and ordered a chopped sandwich today. They machine sliced the meat and then chopped it up. Why is old fashioned CHOPPED so difficult to understand. DO NOT buy sliced Pok sandwiches in Florida. You wll be disappointed. Another thing, Sonny's, like so many others don't have a standard sauce. They offer different flavors and in Sonny's case actually pre-packages it fror the Drive thru. HELP !!!! Take me back to Georgia where they understand how to properly prepare the meat for serving after they cook it properly.

I've been here once and for my first experience it was not so good. I had to wait a long time to get my order served, at least 30 mins and I had to call someone to find out what happen. The menu is similar to Dustin BBQ but is not better. The only advantage here at Sonny's is the. { all you can eat } which is not bad. The ribs are more grease than meat and that's something that I don't really like.

I have to say that I'm very disappointed in the food that we ordered to go in Sonny's we had to take back the first order and then we get home with the second order and it is terrible full of grease the redneck egg rolls look like pan fried crap and I I've been to the restaurant and we've gotten good food inside but never again will I order from here

  • Casey C.

My experience at Sonny's BBQ was good overall...We dined in for lunch one day and here's the story... My first thought was, "this is not what I expected". The atmosphere is no frills, but I am used to more of a "BBQ Joint" than a "BBQ Restaurant". We don't have chain BBQ restaurants back home. Like I mentioned, this place is not fancy, but is a great casual family restaurant, where you can count on quick service and good food. The prices are very reasonable too. The menu offers anything one would expect to find at a BBQ restaurant. They have smoked barbecued beef, chicken, pork, and turkey and all the trimmings. They usually have an 'All You Can Eat" special going on. They have a good kids menu, including hot dogs, and smaller versions of the other meals. These meals are VERY reasonably priced. I was dining in for lunch and having never been to a Sonny's before; I wanted to try as many different items as possible and ordered the Super Combo. If I had to do it again, I would look pretty hard at their "all you can eat" option. That being said, let's dig a little deeper.... Sonny's does not smother their meat in sauce; almost everything is served "naked", which is a good thing and shows confidence in their cooking ability. The sauces were there waiting for you at the table, which I really liked, being a sauce enthusiast. There are four I believe, but at my table there were three options: Mild, Sizzlin' Sweet, and Smokin'. My favorite was the Sizzlin' Sweet, which had the perfect combination of sweetness and spices. All three appeared to be tomato based, but the Sizzlin' Sweet seemed to have more hints of vinegar than the other two. Superb. The classic dry rub ribs I received were very good and along with the sliced pork, the highlight of the meal. They were served naked as well, so they weren't anything fancy, but were tender and had a crust with a nice spicy smoke flavor. The brisket was good, but you should be able to slice brisket with a fork, or when holding a slice in your hand, with a slight tug, it should pull apart. That's real pit brisket. It should have a wonderful, flavorful crust that is very tasty and robust in flavor, not too dry. Sonny's BBQ brisket wasn't overly dry, but was leaner than I am used to, and not super tender. It pulled apart, but not without a good tug. I didn't experience a lot of flavor with the brisket. My opinion is that although the brisket was undoubtedly good, it didn't stand on its own and relied on the sauces too much. The big surprise was the sliced pork, this is something we don't have back home, so it was new to me and was well received. It was cut thin, moist, tender and had some flavor; although it could have used more as well. Sizzlin' Sweet to the rescue again... I was not impressed with any side dishes I received, which were the green beans and the baked beans. The baked beans were too sweet. There were nice chunks of meat in there, but I couldn't taste anything because the brown sugar overshadowed the dish. The green beans were bland, the small bits of bacon included didn't add any flavor and I suspect were there merely for aesthetics. Since my visit, I've read online that the Mac & Cheese is not to be missed. The salad bar is fair. However, I must say that what passes for potato salad bread pudding was nearly inedible. I've eaten potato salad prepared almost every way possible, and this was the worst I've ever experienced to date. My personal favorite is the Classic Southern variety. What was served at Sonny's was mainly boiled potatoes chopped into about one inch pieces, mixed together with a mayonnaise and vinegar dressing of some sort, I'm not sure if it had eggs or not. The bread pudding was solid and dry and not too appealing, but having tried the bread pudding at every restaurant that serves it, I went ahead and braved the square I was given at Sonny's. It's not worth writing about. **** Originally, I was going to go with a three star rating because of the side dishes, but after writing my review, I realize that I enjoyed Sonny's more than that. The great meat I had more than made up for the disappointment in the side dishes. Good BBQ places are getting harder to find, and Sonny's offers a very good menu at good prices, which is even harder to find. I wish I could give a 4.5 star rating.

Don't waste your time or money! After being seated, the waitress came over 15 minutes later. I ordered all you can eat chicken and he ordered all you can eat ribs. Others who sat down AFTER us were eating and we were just sitting there with no food. We asked for our server several times from the one waitress who happened to walk by our table. Finally, dinner arrived. My chicken dinner and all sides were cold. His ribs (4) were small from the short end of the rack. It took 15 minutes to get another order of.....you guessed it, 4 small ribs. His sides were also cold when served. All you can eat is a scam because you can't get it! The waitress seemed frazzled and totally disconcerned. I won't ever go there again! You shouldn't either!

We eat here about 3-4 times a month, we love it here! We always sit in the same booth & have the same waitresses. Great place & our kids love it! Definitely better than most chain restaurants you go too.

What a great chain restaurant!!! I usually shy away from chains, but glad I was convinced to come here, a real treat. Came here on a boys weekend so we got to try nearly the whole menu. What stood out to me is the non-pulled brisket, dry-rubbed and superbly tender and smokey. They have a few bbq sauces on the table, but u can request some great mustard sauce which I think goes better with the brisket. The place has plenty of booth seating and is by the par chain, but clean restrooms and clean in general. The staff were very patient with us, especially for being a group of guys that had a few beers by the end.

Great barbecue, great service, and they are never stingy with the condiments. I always stop at Sonny's BBQ when I'm in the area visiting family. While they're barbecue isn't necessarily the best, their ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, and grilled chicken are pretty decent. Their baked beans are also my favorite compared to other side items that are on the menu. I also appreciate that you can always rely on the service and quality of the food to be consistent every time.

!st issue... you can't just buy a sandwich...2nd issue 3 combos was close to $29 - that included a tasteless sliced pork sandwich with fatty chewy pork, a small handful of undercooked fries and at least a good sweet tea. This is not the sonny's I grew up with. I guess they are more concerned putting out substandard food and living off their namesake instead of producing food that excels above the normal. It would be to your advantage to stop eating barbecue in this area and wait until you make a trip to the carolinas.

Pros: The food is always good. Great variety of ordering options like lunch, dinner, combos, big deals, etc. The service is always very timely and they always keep your drinks full and ask if they can help. Cons: It's a chain. Menu and specials rarely change. The salad bar is not really robust enough to order as a standalone meal and not worth the price to add to meal unless you're planning on filling up on salad and taking home your main course for lunch the next day. Overall: worth it every time if you order lunch, a Big Deal anytime, or dinner. Feast for four is amazing. Do yourself a favor and try the cornbread.

All you can eat bbq (and sides) $14.99 plus $2 domestic pints! What's not to like? I liked the brisket and pulled pork best. They are missing a real hot sauce, medium only, but good sweet smoky sauce.

Well, For starters we walked in and waited for about 8-10 minutes just to be seated. The place was fairly slow not too many people, so being seated quickly seemed reasonable. Apparently, not for Sonny's. The Waitress did a great job at not getting irritated at my obnoxious and rude brother-in-law. He ordered all you can eat sweet ribs, with a side of fries and mac & cheese. I ordered just the lunch special of sweet ribs, a loaded baked potato, and Mac & Cheese. For Drinks we had sweet teas. These drinks are probably the only reason Sonny's gets three stars in my book. The Cups are MASSIVE, COLOSSAL, GOD LIKE, EPIC! And the waitress made sure to keep refilling. The food only took about 8 minutes to hit the table, and just looking at it looked mouth-watering. My potato did not come loaded like i asked, and i had to wait another 5 minutes for the waitress to bring out cheese and bacon for the potato and my side of Mac&cheese. By that time the potato was not hot enough to even remotely melt the cheese. The ribs were not anymore than luke warm when they hit the table and were very bland, flavorless, and dull. The four sauces you can choose from were actually quite tasty. I am at a stand still on two stars or three, but all in all I guess it wasn't that bad of an experience. It's comparable to the other BBQ joints around here, but lacks scenery. Very dull and boring inside, only thing to look at is your hefty brother in-law indulging in all you can eat ribs.

This was my family's first visit. The wife wanted to come to Daytona Beach since we moved to Jacksonville. So here we are. We started off with the corn nuggets, and an order of Sonny's Special Recipe of Onion Rings. Man, they were IN...CRED...IBLE!!! Our waitress, Ashley, recommended eating them with Ranch dressing. Wow! It was the bomb man! For our main course, we had the Family Feast for Four. It has BBQ pork (which we declined), beef brisket, chicken, and some sweet & smokey beef ribs. We also got to have our choice of 3 sidekicks (side orders). We ordered the original recipe BBQ beans, which took me back to my childhood, corn on the cob, crinkle cut French fries, and an extra order of the homemade Mac & cheese. The freeway came with drinks, and here's where I screwed up. I ordered the sweet tea, and it was bitter lime you wouldn't believe! I had to mix some of my kids' pink lemonade, some lemons, and s couple of packs of sugar to make it yate halfway decent. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the entire meal, and the service. I will definitely pay a visit to my local Sonny's. I hope to get the exact same if not better experience there. I'll definitely keep y'all posted. Later!

Every time I've gone to this Sonny's either my food or my boyfriend's food comes out cold and this was no exception. We had to wait 10 minutes just for our drinks and than another 15 - 20 minutes for our food. Than my food (a big deal chicken sandwich & fries) came out lukewarm. The rest of my party didn't have anything complicated (chicken, salad, macaroni & cheese and a sweet potato) so I don't know what took so long. The rest of the restaurant didn't look too busy & there were other tables waiting for their food just as long if not longer than we had to wait. After my food finally came out hot, 5 minutes later, it was still just "eh"; my sandwich was greasier than usual but I was to hungry at that point to send it back again. By far the worst & slowest experiences at this Sonny's to date. The kitchen seriously needs to get it together. I think I'm about at the point where I won't go back to this location again.
